Diary of Cog "Stumbleduck" Ritasdegel. 1st Granite, 204

It has been a full year since my last entry. My, how much work we have done!
The outpost's name is Eddudmogshum Vathezustoscossakub Mato, I don't even know what that is in Human language.. What kind of idiot picked that name anyways?!?

It's quite hot around here, all the grass is dry and the few puddles of water there were have all dried up. Luckily there are a decent number of trees still alive, so we can cut those down for some easy wood.

Anyways, what have we done this past year? Let's see.. Well, there were some problems finding a suitable farm location, because we kept finding stone in the room we were digging out.. So we only have a small P'elmet farm, but we have a couple other plots in the room too, so that should be fine for a decent while. At least until a huge bunch of migrants come.. We dug out the ceiling of part of this farm room, and covered the gap with some stone roofing, to allow some sun in, so we can grow a more varied number of plants in that room.. (That was my genious idea!)

What else, hmm.. We set up a barracks so we all have somewhere to sleep while we get the housing situation sorted out. We also got our Trade Depot set up nice and early, to catch those initial traders and grab some much-needed supplies.

It seems part of the reason it's so hot here is because of the huge volcano right next to our fortress! Perhaps we can use the magma to our advantage?..
While digging out a tunnel for the magma, I stumbled upon a huge Native Copper vein! Bloody excellent, we already have the ingredients to start making weapons! So after digging all that out, and chucking it in a big stockpile out of the way, we closed off the tunnel, and opened up the magma side. Now we have magma-heated workshops we can melt and forge things with!

There isn't really anything else exciting to mention here.. Started work on the dining room, food stockpiles, and food-working things.. I've always been interested in how those guys make beer and ale, but I also like bashing at rocks with my huge pick, so whatever..

Oh my gosh! I almost forgot to mention the tragic loss of my good friend, Dakost. We were using the space around the top of the volcano for an easy passage to the workshop area, and we got attacked by one of those horrible fire-men... I saw it happen, they were on the other side of the magma from me, I was trying to run over there to help him, but I was too slow, and he got burnt by the fire-guy's horrible breath.. That's the last time I go in there, I can tell you that!
The thing that annoys me, is that we didn't have a coffin, or a proper burial site set up, so we had to just leave his corpse outside to rot! Who the hell is running this stupid fortress anyway?!? I'm too angry to write anoy more.

This is just going to be a fun little one off, or maybe two or three sessions if enough people really enjoy it and we don't finish.

Character creation:
Starting level: 10 (Or 45,000 exp for anyone using level adjustments)
Stat rolling: same as Stuckey's campaign, 3 lots of 3d6, 2 lots of 4d6 take best three, 1 lot of 5d6 take best three. Roll two lines and pick one, or if you don't like either, you can roll a third line but you have to keep that. Even if that third line is all threes, you keep it.
Starting gold: 49,000 gp. Your starting gear comes out of this. However, you can't get any one item worth more than 1/4 of that (12250 gp)

Feel free to make characters ahead of time, in fact, I'd prefer it that way.

For making characters, you can use anything in the core books, and stuff from the following list: (Books I have access to)

Expanded Psionics Handboox
The Quintessential Sorcerer
Book of Exalted Deeds
Book of Vile Darkness
Unearthed Arcana

Also, the System Reference Document (Basically the core rulebooks without the pretty (or not) pictures) is available here, and is available for download here.

Your goal in this is to retrieve a powerful magic item from the heart of the dungeon. I'll be more specific when I've decided what it is.

The town near the dungeon will grant access to all basic commodities, food, equipment repair, spellcasters for things like Raise Dead.

As I believe Stuckey is the only one with hard copies of the 3.5 books, if several people could bring laptops with pdfs of the phb, and/or Stuckey's house keys, that would be good.
